Hello friends! My name is Melanie Mai! I am a French Indonesian girl and currently go to school in Paris! This is my quiet corner where I keep my little stories. :)
Zorbing - A Strange Experience
Let me tell you a story that happened to me one year ago. It’s a story of me trying out something that that I never tried before, which is zorbing, some kind of extreme activity. I know for sure I was not meant for extreme sports and I don’t think I will go for it ever again.
I’ve long been friends with Jada Achim from Denmark. We’ve been going to the same school together for two years. I’ve always been the kind to enjoy study, and so my results were always good at school. Jada was never a top student. She was actually struggling a lot with some subjects such as advanced maths, calculus and financial accounting.
I can’t really say I enjoyed these subjects, but since I’m a fast learner, I was pretty good at all of them. Since I couldn’t really study at home because my brothers were always playing the computer and running around the house making noise and distracting me, I would go to the library. That is where I met Jada for the first time. She knew we were taking the same courses and so she approached me. We studied together ever since the first time he met, and she improved a lot. As time went by we became best friends.
And this is how, this summer, I ended up in Jada’s hometown of Vorbjeggard. We had a lot of fun there, hitting the pubs, sightseeing, walking along the countryside. And since one of the biggest attractions of the area is the Zorbing-Park that they have out of town, Jada decided to take me there one day. I told her I’m not really into such things, but she insisted that zorbing is a unique experience, and that in no way should I skip the opportunity. And so I listened to her and went to the location. I was quite scared when I saw the giant slope on which huge plastic balls were rolling down. They seem to go really fast.
There were people inside these giant balls, and they tumbled around in the inner ball which was filled with water. I said the inner ball, because these gents hamster balls are actually two plastic spheres one inside the other, linked with some threads and filled with air. But Jada insisted that we shouldn’t take the water ride. She had the superb idea of going for harnessed zorbing.
That meant that we were stuck in some harnesses inside the inner sphere. This way wouldn’t slide around in water, but instead as the ball rolled down the hill we would just spin out of control in all directions. Jada had a lot of fun, but I cannot say the same thing for myself.
When the ball finished its course and stopped, I unbuckled my harness, dashed out of the ball and instantly, as we say, fed the fish. I knew I shouldn’t have eaten that fish and chips right before coming to the park. My bad.
I must admit that zorbing was an interesting experience, but it just wasn’t for me. Or maybe I just shouldn’t have eaten before showing up. I think my brothers would have enjoyed it more though. I can definitely see them tumbling around in these inflatable balls like the two little hamsters they are. But me, I’m just the regular nerd, and would rather stick to my books! And so I shall.
